Suitable Viewing Age
  • Rating: Entry available for ages 7 or older (Born in 2017 or earlier or older than elementary school student (grade 1))
  • Please make sure to bring a certificate or document that may prove your date of birth (e.g., Public Health Insurance Certificate, Resident Registration Certificate, Passport, Student Card, etc.).
  • ※ Viewers under the age limit cannot enter the venue regardless of the ticket held or accompanied by a guardian

Ticket Booking and Reception

Viewing Information
  • National Asian Culture Center strictly restricts viewer rate, mid-performance entry, and photography for a pleasant viewing experience.
  • ※ Viewers are responsible for failure to understand the entry regulations.
  • Viewers can enter the venue 30 minutes before the performance, and will be prohibited entry once the performance begins.
  • ※ The entry time may vary by the nature of the performance and on-site situation; please enter the venue 10 minutes before.
  • ※ Late audience members will be seated in the Late Audience Seats instead of the seats on their tickets. If the Late Audience Seats are full, you may not be allowed to enter the venue. Please make sure to arrive at the venue early, before the performance time.

  • Please note that the FOH area will have folding chairs instead of regular fixed seats.

시대와 사람을 고찰하는 안무가 안은미의 시선, '신여성'을 향하다.
“Yojaya Yojaya” by the Korea National Contemporary Dance Company,

who presents the best performances with spectacular choreography and direction
alongside her anthropological exploration


Choreographer Ahn Eun-me has portrayed the history of the bodies of our grandmothers’ and mothers’ generations since 2010,
starting from the piece “Dance to My Ancestors,”
with her unique flair and sense of humor.
The bodies embracing a range of generations, including men, adolescents, persons with disabilities, and Asian millennials
and children, have formed a huge river, expanding their history.
Choreographer Ahn, who examines the era and people, now turns her gaze to the “new women” who live in Korea’s modern and contemporary era.

During the Port-Opening Period,
we had to go through a painful time of Japanese occupation,
and some women were deprived of their country.
They did not go by their names, got married at an early age because of such custom, or became widows with children in their late teens at times.
Ahn intends to invite us to listen to the voices of the women who lived and faded into history at the time.
They may seem to have adorned an era splendidly under the guise of a “new woman” or a “modern girl,”
but they lived fiercely more than anyone else. These were “new women” who cried, “Allow us to have a dance hall in Seoul,”
while some were deceived by love or begged for money. Some romanticists claimed love was infinite,
and others lived up to their names, even though they had none.
Yojaya Yojaya reflects various aspects of the lives of the “new women” who struggled to lead their lives ahead of us
while getting frustrated by the walls of the times. Multiple audiovisual elements,
such as bobbed hairstyles, accessories and costumes in harmony with diverse dance movements, as well as buzzwords or neologisms of those days,
keeping pace with social and cultural changes, bring the stage to life.
This production is set to showcase a spectrum of dance performances,
including an epic drama, illuminating how the fragments they left behind have been passed down to this day.
About the Choreographer
안은미
Ahn Eun-me is a choreographer who has received attention in the global dance scene for over 30 years with her eccentric and unconventional movements.
She has presented works dealing with generational, physical, and cultural diversity with different groups of people, such as grandmothers, middle-aged men, persons with disabilities, and foreigners.
Through her work, Ahn intends to see dance from an anthropological perspective and send it back to society.
Recently, Ahn Eun Me Company, where she serves as the artistic director, held the “Eun-Me Pong Festival,” which presented various media dance works.

국립현대무용단
Established in 2010, the Korea National Contemporary Dance Company (KNCDC) is Korea’s only national contemporary dance company. Through dance created in collaboration with artists with exceptional creative capacities, KNCDC aspires to create Korean contemporary dance that tells stories of history, society, and daily lives of contemporaneity that can be appreciated across regions and generations. Following Hong Seungyup, Ahn Aesoon, Ahn Sungsoo, and Nam Jungho, the first to fourth artistic directors, respectively, choreographer Kim Sungyong succeeded as KNCDC’s fifth artistic director.
As an organization that specializes in creation of new productions, KNCDC seeks to realize diverse contemporary values in dance performances. KNCDC produces productions by inviting choreographers with authentic artistic directions and selecting the most suitable dancers for each project. Furthermore, by protecting artists’ rights, KNCDC enables them to freely express their individuality within the dance company’s stable system.
KNCDC continues to work to provide the best environment for dance where artists and audiences can grow together. As a platform where artists and audiences meet, the company hopes to form a healthy ecosystem where diverse values can coexist. Moreover, KNCDC plans to enrich the lives of citizens by allowing them to experience dance closely in their day-to-day lives.
