Mr. Ahn the Whale Is Strange is a new work of the GWANGDAE theater company that has transformed social issues into a witty piece of art—a media play that blends electric music and media. It tells the story of distanced individuals and the value of “communication” in our society through the perspective of a whale that cannot communicate with other whales. Movements and techniques of traditional theatricals such as Pungmulnori, Tallori, etc. and recreated movements and sounds of coastal theatricals are combined with electric music and media and presented as the center of the performance.

Mr. Sun is a lonely person. The only time Mr. Sun becomes himself is the moment he holds his breath in the bathtub after coming home from work at night. He imagines being a whale in the water. Inside the tub, that is, the ocean, no one loves him, but there is no judgment or hatred either.
One ordinary day, a fairy of sea-foam appears and makes his wish come true: Mr. Sun finally becomes a whale. As he is giddy with the expectation to lead a new sea life, the fairy breaks terrible news.
