Collection Series
Mosques are buildings used for worship by Muslims. The spread of Islam to different regions has led mosques to change in diverse forms and appearances according to the local climate and cultural factors.
This exhibition features miniatures of prayer halls and minarets, or mosque towers, of mosques in Indonesia. The first mosque in Indonesia features a multi-tiered structure with a tower-like roof, constructed in a traditional wooden architecture style of Southeast Asia. This style can be found around Sumatra and Java, Indonesia, often used for community gatherings and royal events. Since the 19th century, mosques with round domes and multiple minarets that we are familiar with began to appear.
Minarets are tower-like parts built adjacent to mosques and around a prayer hall. Muezzins proclaim the call to the daily prayer five times a day at the top of the minaret.
This relic features the harmony of traditional arts of Islam and Indonesia. Come see the architectural features and beauty of mosques in Indonesia.
