About
Kula is a concept that proposes new directions for cultural exchanges in Asia. “Kula”originated from the barter exchange among the indigenous people in the Trobriand Islands, Melanesia and it can be an experimental solution to the crisis we are facing now in contemporary society.
As an alternative to the Imperialist power dynamics based on dominant-subordinate relationships, the act of exchanging gifts works to achieve mutual benefits, promote respect for others and support social norms. The ACC considers this act of exchanging gifts as a model for cultural and artistic exchanges.
Through ACC Network Platform: Asia Kula Kula-ring, based on this concept of Kula that focuses on the importance of reciprocity and respect, the ACC would like to lay groundwork for connecting art spaces, so-called “Kula-zones,” across Asia.

Kula-Bazaar
The exhibition Kula-Bazaar reveals various forms of art spaces full of vitality by incorporating the characteristics of the traditional bazaar. Through this exhibition, the ACC attempts to reflect on the future of the project of building a network among art spaces across Asia as well as finding the answers to the question on how we can carry out cultural and artistic exchanges in a more practical sense.

Kuleana
The exhibition Kuleana subtitled “Cosmos Being Drawn by Circle and Triangle” is focusing on the relational autonomy between art spaces based on responsibility and devotion. The word “Kuleana” means autonomy in the native Hawaiian language. Kuleana is an exhibition organized in collaboration with the Arts Collaboratory Meta Group as a part of the Arts Collaboratory Network’s project on self-organization that has continued since 2013.

2016 Café in Asia Gwangju Ganesha
Ganesha, meaning “master of multitude,” is one of the gods most beloved by Indians. Through “Ganesha,” the key to understanding the Indian culture, the ACC is putting effort into making a connection between Korean and Indian cultures. Such an effort will play a key role in building a network among art spaces across Asia.
