Introduction
ACT Festival 2024
The ACT Festival, named after the initials of Art & Creative Technology, is a fusion of art and technology. Since its inception in 2015, this festival has grown into an international event, now in its 9th edition, featuring 16 teams from 15 countries.
The theme for ACT Festival 2024 is “What If?: Perspectives on Envisioning the Future,” inspired by Isaac Asimov’s 1952 short story, What If.. In the story, the protagonist imagines paths not taken and, with the aid of technology, glimpses the possibilities and outcomes of different lives. The question “What if..” reflects a psychological response to uncertainty, ultimately urging us to embrace our anxieties and cherish the value of reality.
ACT Festival 2024 focuses on the message of What If.., a story published 70 years ago, exploring the complex interplay between the uncertainties we face today and the hopes we have for a technological future, all through the lens of art.
This year’s festival offers a diverse lineup, including the Asian premiere of sound art maestro Ryoji Ikeda’s Ultratronics, the Cannes Immersive Cinema Award-winning film Noire(Colored), screenings of six films by director Riar Rizaldi, spotlighted by MoMA, a lecture by physicist Sang Wook Kim, known for his appearance on Alssul Sinjab, presentations of works by eight artists from the ACC Creators International Residency on the theme “AI∙Human∙Multiverse,” the Korean debut of Russian duo 404.zero’s intense audiovisual concert, new sounds and captivating messages from Thai and Cambodian artists, and the mesmerizing blend of visuals and improvisational sound by Akiko Nakayama and Kaito.
Don’t miss this opportunity to experience the intriguing dialogue between art and technology and to explore the diverse perspectives on the future that humanity envisions.

Topic: The User Manual for a Better Future
How do we shape our imagination of the future?
Have such visions from the past ever truly come to fruition?
In reality, imagining the future is challenging because the future is not something that simply arrives—it is something that we create.
